by Labinius Maximus, traveling scribe.

Alexandreia is a role-playing, Second-Life region where the buildings, temples, harbor, lighthouse and yes, even its people, are historically correct down to the last detail. You are invited to don your period appropriate attire and visit for an experience you won’t forget.
As you immerse yourself in the lifestyle at the time of the famous Queen Kleopatra you will discover that everything is possible in Alexandreia.

Alexandreia Historical Background and Context

Within the environs of Second Life, in the year 60 B.C. we come upon the great city of Alexandreia, named for Alexander the Great, during the reign of Queen Kleopatra T. Philopator, the last ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. The city exists in its historical context in great detail through the dreams and vision of Queen Kleopatra and her very skilled artist and friend, Elio Donat.

After Julius Ceasar was murdered in Rome in 44 BC., Queen Kleopatra, fearing for the future of Egypt, returned to Alexandreia to put into play strategic diplomatic maneuvers she felt necessary to ward off the annexation of Egypt by Rome. It was her goal to strengthen her international position by signing treaties with powerful neighboring countries in the absence of any definitive agreement with Rome.

During this difficult period, Alexandreia continues to be the cultural center of the world, with its great library and scientific community. Their citizens take pride in the fact that they lead the world with their vast reservoir of stored knowledge and scientific achievement. But Alexandreia is also a city of many diverse and abundant pleasures allowing its citizens to forget for a time each day the ominous cloud that hangs over them in the form of the threat from Imperial Rome.

Even with these pervasive political challenges, I was privileged recently to visit Alexandreia and enjoy its cultural wealth and architectural wonders. I spent a week marveling at the attention its builders took to represent in great detail the historical monuments of this Ancient Egyptian iconic metropolis. You will note that among its wonders is a magnificent temple, the Serapeum, dedicated to the God Serapis, the patron of the Ptolemaic dynasty and Alexandreia.

You will not want to miss the Great Library of Alexandreia, a symbol for the city known as the capitol of knowledge and learning, where many of the famous minds of ancient times studied and developed their ideas.

The great harbor greets ships from all around the Mediterranean and is dominated by the Pharos, the great lighthouse of Alexandreia that is one of the Seven Wonders of our Ancient World.

But perhaps the greatest attraction of this magnificent city is its Queen and her people. You will find none friendlier anywhere and always there is something happening you won’t want to miss. While I was there I attended a belly-dance review by the Aset Dancers of the Anuket Group. The next day, I spent a thrilling afternoon at the racetrack where a number of unusual races were staged to the delight and entertainment of a packed audience.

There are many fine Lords and Ladies residing in Alexandreia and you are likely to encounter them during your visit. Their costumes are all of the period and reflect the lifestyle and erotic freedom associated with the era and that the populace enjoys. It is not unusual to run into Queen Kleopatra who often rides her magnificent black stallion around the town accepting the adulation and praise of her loyal people.

Alexandreia is a paradise captured in a time capsule you will not soon forget. If you spend an afternoon there admiring the skills of the resident artist and buidler Elio Donat, you might even find you want to stay and live there permanently. Who doesn't want to be an ancient Lord or Lady with servants waiting on them hand and foot? There is much more to this phenomenal polis than time and space will allow me to show you. Queen Kleopatra is always expanding the city and there is a rumor that an entirely new Roman-themed development is coming very soon to mirror the historical mix in population! Don’t miss out.
