The 1920s was a decade of new inventions, new technology and a prosperous time for America.   At the beginning of the 1920s soldiers were returning home to their family and were expecting to have a wonderful and a stable lifestyle.   New technologies such as the radio, silent movies and Henry Ford's automobile industry helped the American people to enjoy their life.

After WWI the weapons were no longer needed so the economy decreased for a while.   However, just after a few years, America began to prosper again and became the world's richest nation where consumerism was being practiced.   People were being paid $5 workday, which was a lot at the time period. They therefore began to spend money for better roads, tourism and holiday resorts.   Technology played an important role in delivering the economic and cultural good times throughout the nation.   New invention such as Henry Fords Model T. helped people to live an easy life.   It made transportation welcoming for people in the newly built roads.   Many people adopted Henry Ford's assembly line in their industry.   Assembly line was important because it made labor fast and easy, however, it decreased the amount of laborers needed to do a job.

Cars were not the only invention that interested people.   During this time period the radio could be found in every home in America.   The first public station was known as KDKA station, at first located in Pittsburgh. However, after a short while thousands more were on the air across the country.   Radio had become a national pastime and many listeners gathered in their living rooms to listen to sports news, concerts, sermons and "Red Menace" news.

Radio wasn't the only means of entertainment in the Roaring Twenties.   Silent movies were introduced to the people in 1922 with sound starring the jazz singer Al Jolson.   In 1926, the introduction of Technicolor made movies more entertaining and memorable.   As we all know, the movie industry became a major part of American industry then and now.

The 1920s saw a drastic improvement in science, medicine and health.   Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921.   Newly introduced immunization helped to cease the number of deaths caused by diphtheria.   This was the time when interest developed in nutrition, caloric consumption and physical health.   Because of flappers focus on dieting and her popular look, the dietary habits of Americans changed significantly as they practiced the moral of less fat and meat and more fruits and vegetables.   The discovery of vitamins and their effects also came about during this decade.   Not only that, peoples consumption of cigarettes increased to roughly 43 billion per year, and bootleg liquor became a $ 3.5 billion a year business.

The Roaring Twenties was not only popular for its art, history and literature but also for its improvement in science.
