The 1970's was a decade of many good and bad moments.   A famous scandal that happened was the Watergate scandal.   This scandal started an impeachment trial on Richard Nixon and he was later forced to resignfrom the presidency.   During the 1970's Richard Nixon was elected and re-elected to the White House.   Later in his second term, Richard Nixon chose to resign rather than face impeachment.   A popular trend that everyone in the nation caught on to was disco dancing.   This decade will be remembered in everybody's mind.

The Watergate Scandal was a very controversial scandal that messed with many people's lives.   The main point of the whole break-inwas to sabotage the Democratic chance for the presidency.   The Watergate Complex was a home of Democratic files.   The republicans wanted to break in and ruin the race so that Richard Nixon would win the election.   While investigating the scandal the five men who broke in were captured.   The five men were Frank Sturgis, Virgilio Gonzalez, Bernard Barker, Eugenia Martinez and James McCord.   These five people were very close Government workers and Richard Nixon personally approved them to do this. When the FBI and CIA were investigating they asked Alexander Butterfield if there was any type of recording system in the White House.   Butterfield replied and said that there was a full recording system that automatically records everything said in the Oval Office.   He later said that even though those were the only reported recording systems in the whole White House, there were some bugs implanted inside every room including Nixon's private office.   They eventually got the tapes and found out that Nixon approved everything that happened.   After the House of Representatives listened to the tapes they started looking into a possible impeachment of the president.   When Nixon found out about this he decide to resign instead of being impeached.

Richard Milhous Nixon was born on January 9, 1913, in Yorba Linda, California.   He was born and raised a Quaker.   After Nixon graduated high school he was offered a scholarship from Harvard University but declined and later decided to enroll in a small community college called Whittier College. After Nixon got his degree in law, he joined the United States Navy.   While he was in the Navy he was known as "Nick" and won a portion of his first campaign finances in poker games while he was serving.   In 1960 Richard Nixon ran against John F. Kennedy and lost by a slim number of votes.   In 1968 Richard Nixon ran against Hubert Humphrey and defeated him by a slim 1% of popular Votes.   A great thing that Nixon did during his presidency was to bring the U.S. and Communist China together.   In 1972 Richard Nixon was re-elected after gaining 49 out of 50 states on his side.   Not only did he have 49 states but he also had 60% of popular vote in the United States. In 1972,   the end of the Watergate Scandals were being investigated and Nixon was facing the hot seat.   They had evidence that Nixon approved all the scandals.   Nixon later made a smart decision and resigned from the presidency instead of facing impeachment.   On April 18, 1994, Nixon suffered a severe Stroke and was admitted to the hospital and stayed there until he died on April 22, 1994, he was 81 years old.

Disco is a genre of music that was made popular by the freedom of dancing to it whenever you want.   Disco had its role in many people's lives.   Famous disco singers and performers include The Jackson 5, KC and The Sunshine Band, ABBA, The Bee Gees and Diana Ross. Disco dancing was not only made famous in music it was also made famous in movies.   Movies that were disco themed were Saturday Night Fever and Thank God It's Friday .   Although disco was a very popular thing there were many downsides to it.   A lot of people that were disco dancing were on drugs. Drugs such as cocaine and amyl nitrate were used during disco dancing.   This often resulted in people passing out on the dance floor or in bathrooms.   People did not always pass out when they were on these drugs a lot of the time it ended up with sex in places such as bathrooms and exit stairwells.   Disco was officially out ruled by dance music, such as techno and house, and hip-hop music in 1979.   The tones that were used in disco were now being transformed into what we call Techno.   Even though disco is not that popular in today's society there are still a lot of people that are into it.

The 1970's, because of all the important events, people and trends that took place this was a very popular decade.   Disco dancing made a huge Outbreak and is still around in small areas today.   The Watergate scandals changed people's views on politics.   The well-know President Richard Milhous Nixon was forced to resign due to the Watergate scandals.   Overall, the 1970's had a lot of ups, and downs.
